Overview

 

The Peterite Connect mobile application, and databases that ensure effective communication (hereinafter “Service”) is owned and operated by The Old Boys Union of St. Peter’s College, Colombo-04 (hereinafter referred to as” we”, “our” and “us”). By using the Service and thereby providing personal information, you consent to us collecting, using, storing and disclosing your personal information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. The Privacy Policy relates to the collection and use of personal information you may supply to us through your conduct on the Service and any personal information we collect from third party providers such as the professional bodies with which we engage. We reserve the right, in our discretion, to modify or remove portions of this Privacy Policy at any time. This Privacy Policy is in addition to any other terms and conditions applicable to the Service. We do not make any representations about third party websites and applications that may be linked to the Service. We recognize the importance of protecting the privacy of information collected about users of the Service, in particular information that is capable of identifying an individual (“personal information”). This Privacy Policy governs the manner in which your personal information, obtained through the Service, will be dealt with. This Privacy Policy should be reviewed periodically so that you are updated on any changes.

 

Personal Information Collected

 

Personal information is information or an opinion about you or from which you can be reasonably identified. Personal information about users of the Service is collected from information that you provide us directly or indirectly through your use of the Service.

Information that may be subject to collection in the course of your use of the Service includes but is not limited to:

 

a) Your name, gender, contact details, age or date of birth, profession, place of work;

b) Any photographs and uploaded pictures;

d) Any content related to qualifications, events, calendars, etc.  posted on the Service; and

e) Your device ID, device type, Internet Protocol (IP) address and standard web log information.

 

We may also collect details of your visits to our website, including, but not limited to, traffic data, location data, logs and other communication data, whether this is required for our own purposes or otherwise.

 

For the same reason, we may obtain information about your general internet usage by using cookies. A cookie is a small file stored on the hard drive of your computer. Use of cookies help us to improve our website and to deliver a better and more personalized service. You may refuse to accept cookies by activating the appropriate setting on your browser. However, if you select this setting, you may be unable to access certain parts of our website. We do not collect personally identifiable information automatically, but we may tie this information to your previously submitted personally identifiable information.

 

Use of Personal Information

 

Personal information that visitors submit to Service is used primarily in connection with the provision and promotion of the Service and to improve on and enhance the range of those services and offerings.

 

The following are the reasons we collect and use your personal information:

a) so you can access and use the Service;

b) so we can provide users personal information to each other in connection with sending and receiving communications related to the Old Boys Association and its members;

c) to customize the Service for users.;

d) so we can verify your identity;

e) so we can provide you with our products and services and information about our products and services;

f) so we can interact with you;

g) so we can develop consumer insights to better understand your preferences and interests, personalize your experience and enhance the products and services you receive;

h) for research and development or to improve goods and services;

i) so we can send you service, support and administrative messages, reminders, technical notices, updates, security alerts and information requested by you;

j) so we can perform administrative and operational functions;

k) to assist in dispute resolution, investigating complaints and in enquiries and support;

l) so we can comply with any legal requirements;

m) for any related purpose for which we are entitled to use your personal information or for which you have given your consent; and

n) or other purposes which are within reasonable expectations (these may relate, for example to acting on your requests or legal reasons (for example where permitted by law).

 

Collection of Personal Information

 

In general, when we collect personal information about you, we do so by making a record of it. We do this when you:

 

a) register and create an account with us and use and interact with the Service, including interacting with other users of the Service;

b) have allowed us to use cookies to store information from your browser and/or device.

c) communicate with us online, over email, online chat systems, the phone or in person;

d) deal with us in other ways involving a need for personal information to be provided such as when you fill in a form or make a complaint. We may record all calls and so collect any personal information provided during such calls.

 

We may also collect personal information about you by accessing data from other sources and then analysing that data together with the information we already hold about you in order to learn more about your likely preferences and interests.

 

Most of the personal information we collect and hold about you is from your direct dealings with us, for example information you tell us or information we learn directly from your dealing with us, e.g. through “cookies”.

For example, from other parties who, in common with us, have a relationship with you or have information about you; from those to whom we have given access to our online sites (such as through application programming interfaces); from publicly available information and from third party ratings and feedback. Our contractors and service providers who perform services for us, such as payment processing, fraud management, marketing, data analytics and identity verification and background checks may also provide us information about you.

 

You may choose to deal with us anonymously where it is lawful or practical to do so, such as when you make a general enquiry about our products or services.

 

Personal information we hold is generally stored in servers and other computer systems. These may be operated by us or by our service providers. In all cases, we have rigorous information security requirements aimed at minimizing risks of unauthorized access to, and loss, misuse or wrongful alteration of, personal information.

It is not practicable to outline the details of all third parties to whom your personal information is disclosed however, we may disclose your personal information in any of the ways detailed in this section.

 

Apart from where you have consented or disclosure is necessary to achieve the purpose for which it was submitted, personal information may be disclosed in special situations where we have reason to believe that doing so is necessary to identify, contact or bring legal action against anyone damaging, injuring, or interfering (intentionally or unintentionally) with our rights or property, users, or anyone else who could be harmed by such activities.

We rely on some third-party service providers to assist us in operating the Service. For example, we may use third parties to host our site or send push notifications (text message). We provide personal information to these third-party service providers in order to help us operate the Service, but we put in place contractual and/or technical protections that prohibit them from using that information, or disclosing it to any third party, except as necessary in operating the Service.

 

If we (or our assets) are acquired by another company, personal information you submit to the Service would likely be among the assets transferred to the acquirer. In the event of such an acquisition, the Privacy Policy in force at the time would continue to apply your information.

We may disclose personal information when we believe in good faith that the law requires disclosure.

 

We may also disclose your personal information to third parties located in other countries, outside Sri Lanka as required. By providing us with your personal information, you consent to us disclosing your personal information to overseas third parties and acknowledge we will take reasonable steps to ensure that overseas third parties deal with your personal information in a way that complies with necessary privacy laws.

The security of your personal information is important to us. We strive to ensure the security, integrity and privacy of personal information submitted to our sites, and we review and update our security measures in light of current technologies.  We take reasonable steps to prevent the personal information we hold about you from misuse, interference or loss, and from unauthorized access, modification or disclosure. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be totally secure. Once we do receive your transmission, we will also make our best efforts to ensure its security on our systems. In addition, our employees and the contractors who provide services related to our information systems are obliged to respect the confidentiality of any personal information held by us. However, to the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be held responsible for events arising from unauthorized access to your personal information.

 

Access to Information

 

Those with access to your information, including our employees and the contractors who provide services related to our information systems, are obliged to respect the confidentiality of any personal information held by us. If, at any time, you discover that information held about you is incorrect, you may contact us to have the information corrected.

 

Disclaimer

 

We do not monitor, review or exercise any control over the content transmitted by users when using the Service (though we reserve the right to block content that we reasonably believe may subject us or our users to liability). Accordingly, personal information included in the user content posted on the Service is not governed by this Privacy Policy.

 

Change to Our Privacy Policy

 

We may, from time to time, amend this Privacy Policy, in whole or part, in our sole discretion. Any changes to this Privacy Policy will be effective immediately upon the posting of the revised Privacy Policy on our website or mobile application.

 

Depending on the nature of the change, we may announce the change. However, in any event, by continuing to use the Service following any changes, you will be deemed to have agreed to such changes.

 

If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, as amended from time to time, in whole or part, you must terminate your use of the Service.
